Sustainability

Sustainability is at the forefront of our business model and is considered at every step of design and production.

  • Made to order. Our cushions are printed and sewn when we receive an order. This means that when you order from us we will print and manufacture your order by hand in the UK. Producing this way limits overproduction or wasted stock or materials that might otherwise end up in landfill.
  • Natural or recycled materials. We choose to produce our products using natural materials as these materials do not contain plastics and washing them will not emit microplastics into our watersystems around the world. Where it makes sense we will also use recycled plastics, reducing introducing more plastic into our world and putting old plastic to good use.
  • Water-based inks. Our fabrics are all printed using completely water-based inks. This means no chemicals or solvents are used. Our heat fixing procedure fixes the colours and prints, avoiding the downsides of steaming, such as excess or contaminated water returning into the waste system.
  • Direct Shipping. We ship directly to you from our manufacturer to reduce transport emissions from shipping between multiple locations around the world before arriving to you.
  • High quality. Using high quality fabrics, inks and trustworthy manufacturing methods means our products are more durable and very high quality so that they will last for many years in your life. This is one of the ways we are contributing to the slow fashion movement.

Unique Patterns

  • Original. All of our prints and patterns are designed in house by our founder, Annabelle Hill. These are created using different sources of inspiration and media including her own original fine art paintings as well as her images from around the world.

Art

Annabelle, the founder of Mindful Designs was inspired to turn her fine art into everyday beautiful experiences by creating stunning pattern designs. Her original lighting art installations have been exhibited in Denmark over several years.

Pattern Research

One of the catalysts for Mindful Designs was my Master's in Lighting Design in Copenhagen where I was inspired to research an idea of biophillic lighting patterns and colours. Testing people's brainwaves to see how they felt when they experienced different atmospheres from the patterns and colours. The research was very innovative and I was able to publish it across two international conferences including the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) in Europe and the International Making Cities Liveable Conference (IMCL) in the UK. If you're interested you can find the published paper here:
